 You need to <a href="http://www.whitby-north-yorkshire.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?action=login;sesredir=num~1317518490"><img src="http://www.whitby-north-yorkshire.co.uk/public_html/yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/login.gif" alt="Login" title="Login" border="0" /> <span>Login</span></a> or <a href="http://www.whitby-north-yorkshire.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?action=register"><img src="http://www.whitby-north-yorkshire.co.uk/public_html/yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/register.gif" alt="Register" title="Register" border="0" /> <span>Register</span></a> !!<br />Located on the East side of the town (hence the name "East Pier"), and running from <b>Tate Hill Beach</b> of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dracula" target="_blank">Dracula</a> fame out into the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Sea" target="_blank">North Sea</a>.<br />Access is via a steep slipway at the <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=54.48983,-0.610062&spn=0.000737,0.002747&t=h&z=19&vpsrc=6&layer=c&cbll=54.48983,-0.610062&panoid=ZerV6HwJqcXREAJpd2qkRg&cbp=12,26.06,,0,4.75" target="_blank">end</a> of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJrBLJ0yWdo&hd=1" target="_blank">Henrietta Street</a>, unless you fancy clambering across some slippery rocks in the corner of Tate Hill Beach where it meets the Pier.<br />This slipway was constructed around 2000/2001 to replace the previous "Spa Ladder" (kinda like a sloping bridge) that had to be demolished due to "structural integrity issues" with the concrete it was made from - you may have seen it in the background of some TV shows from the late 1990's such as "BBC Local Heroes" with Adam Hart-Davis.<br /><a href="http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h257/jduck1979/web/RaftRace006_4A.jpg" rel="gb_image[nice_pics]" title="..."><img src="http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h257/jduck1979/web/RaftRace006_4A.jpg" name="post_img_resize" alt="..." title="..." border="0" /></a><br />There was a gap of a few years before access to the full East Pier was restored in 2001, that didn't last however - the Extension part of the East Pier has been cut off since 2001/2002 after the Bridge over to that was found to be knackered as well. It's still in that state now getting on for 10 years later.
